Nutrition is just as important as exercise, eating a balanced diet and keeping active are great ways to improve physical and mental wellbeing!

As a nutrition coach, I often get asked “what are the best foods” and “does it really matter if I have an off day and eat something I shouldn’t?”

My answer is always unique to the individual, everyone has different goals, requirements and abilities and it’s important to consider these when creating a nutrition plan.

I consider each individuals unique situation, how active they are, how fit they are, what there goals are to create personalised training and nutrition plans that are not only realistic, but are also enjoyable!

If you’re ever stuck or unsure of where to start, here are some tips to follow and implement into your diet. They highlight some simple yet effective ways in which you can start to build a balanced diet, such as:

• Eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day
• Base meals on higher fibre and protein
• Have some dairy or dairy alternatives (greek/skyr yogurt)
• Eat some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein
• Look after you gut health (microbiome) with a wide variety of nutrients. (kefir yogurt is great to improve your gut microbiome)
• Drink plenty of fluids (at least 6 to 12 glasses a day/ 1.5 – 3 litres/ 3-6 pints). (If you sweat a lot you may want consider using electrolytes to assist with your hydration).
